Something a little bit different to my normal stuff. Mostly inspired by Vincents sunflowers, but with a difference, of course;-)

I think my painting style is emerging. A sort of graphic eclectic look. I love to sweep and squiggle the paint around, dragging it in swirly motions across the canvas. I'm having a lot of fun painting melting ice creams. I love the way that the paintings look like landscapes and sort of make a mockery of still life studies. I'm not sure if this is normal but I often find amusement in the things I paint... Like a visual joke, in a demented sort of way, images crop up into my head and make me grin.

I wish I were a prolific painter who always had something to show off every day... but I'm not. Instead I labor over the smallest of details for hours and days. Always aspiring to reach that ever elusive point of perfection! It's just me, just part of who I am. I don't like making unfinished work. I wouldn't expect to hang it on my own walls if it were unfinished. Its like this: if it could look better than it does then it should look better than it does! Why just settle for mediocre? I want exceptional! Well, that is always my aim anyways. I think I'm continually trying to outdo myself.

I've always been a colouring in book girl. It really shows in this piece.
Hope you all like it:-)

VoilĂ !. Acrylic on wood

I have been slowly working on this painting for the last week, making minor additions and adjustments here and there. It is now laden with gold paint and small checker patterns. I have to admit I'm happy with how it has turned out.

I have never painted a portrait before, so it has been quite a challenge getting this far. One thing I have learnt from this experience so far is that, unfortunately, my memory is not as good as i'd hoped. A decent reference photo or drawing would have been very time saving and helpful. As for painting with oils, the more I paint with them the more I LOVE them!

Oil paints are very flexible to learn with and have a richness that really suits portrait work.
