I have never painted a portrait before, so it has been quite a challenge getting this far. One thing I have learnt from this experience so far is that, unfortunately, my memory is not as good as i'd hoped. A decent reference photo or drawing would have been very time saving and helpful. As for painting with oils, the more I paint with them the more I LOVE them!

Oil paints are very flexible to learn with and have a richness that really suits portrait work.

When I'm too lazy to use my imagination, I attempt to copy reality. It's definitely still a challenge. I wouldn't call it easy, just less brain racking than scumming up ideas from the mirky depths of my mind. Here is the Sness. It's about time I drew her portrait!
Thanks Sness:-) Loves you!

My first post! I feel as though I ought to say something grand! But perhaps it's best to let the pictures talk and not me...

This portrait was drawn last weekend, on Saturday. It's coloured pencil on paper. I have never felt utterly confident in my drawing abilities, but at the same time, I am a perfectionist. Maybe this is what is driving me to keep on going until I get the results I want.

Of course this picture is not perfect! I'll be working on that later... In the mean time I deem this portrait good enough to be framed and hung.
